how to write a nonfiction essay the first thing you do is you start reading you take notes as you go along you underline in your text and you try to understand it the best you can and then you look for this genre what kind of text is it where did it appear who wrote it who is the audience and how is it written how is it structured what kind of language is used and then you look for the theme what is the topic is there a certain theme and how does that theme come across to the reader how is it presented to the reader okay those are things that you look for while you read your essay before you start the writing the actual writing of the essay the next thing here written in blue is how the nonfiction is essay is to be structured it has to be structured with an introduction the body which is the main part of the chase and then a conclusion and what is important is you have to have a red thread running through the whole text and the introduction and the conclusion have to fit together so there’s like a circle structure between into an introduction body and conclusion your introduction is important this is where you can actually where you can try to attract the reader’s attention by telling the reader as much as possible about what the theme is of your essay you present the title and the author of the article or the articles that you are going to write about and when they were published where they were published and it’s a good idea when you do the introduction to use the pentagram the literary pentagram because all the fine points in the pentacle gives you good guidance to what to focus on what to look for and what to write about in your introduction and now to the body of the text normally it’s a good idea to put the body of the text in three parts and in part one it’s a good idea to use a tournament model as the method for analysis and then because that brings you directly into the writers opinions and the problems that are addressed in the text that you’re analyzing or and the text can be a speech as well and if it’s relevant then you say something about the writer also doesn’t matter who the writer is and which point of views are most important in what is being said and in part two in part two it’s a good idea to write about how the things are said what language is used what style is the article of the speech in their devices put the poetic devices that engage the reader and remember he wants you to use an analysis model how does the writer argument what language is used show elements that the author uses emphasize characteristics in the text and how they function in the text how they are relevant to the theme and how do how does the language function on the reader and remember you have to share the reader the evidence again so you you have to show quotations or references from the text that you are analyzing now in part 3 you can comment on your analysis in part 2 you can charge estimate discuss so you can use your analysis to judge the theme has the writer use good choices do you agree does the argumentation function is the structure good how good is the text in general does it taste obtain what it set out to do so here you can use how and why in your argumentation and then discuss if you are asked to discuss two points in the text and then you should explain why you think one is better than the other and now in the next page for the conclusion so this last page is about the conclusion in the conclusion use sum up and write what the most central analysis and comments are and then you look at the introduction again and make sure that you have made a certain structure that is n that the instruction and the conclusion fit together and that the whole body is is like a red thread with the theme as a connection and then what can you conclude in relation to the argumentation and then remember not to write I you have to be objective and that means you have to use quotes from the text that you’re analyzing as proof of your analysis and what you want to say so good luck on your writing

Learn Latex in 5 minutes

hello everyone this is the first series in the tutorial series on how to use latex so today we’re going to see some basic commands that you can use to produce a latex document so the first thing that you need to say is document class then within the brackets you need to put any options for instance if you want to change your font to 12-point you can specify that here and then in the curly braces you put the type of the document so this in my case I’m using an article which is the basic it is included with your package there are other classes that you can use for instance if you are writing a paper for I Triple E or ACM you could put I Triplett ran so we’ll talk about those details later so let’s go to the basics today so the first thing after this document class that you have to do is a begin statement for your document and since there is a begin there will be an end document everything goes between these two begin and end document so the first thing obviously for an article is a title so I’ll create a title and I will call it sample lay tech article by 5 minutes of latex and in order to make it a title you just need to say slash make title I’ll save it in and I’ll run it and this is the output I’ll bring it in the frame here so you see nothing much so this date is from the article class so it definitely puts a date you can change it but we’ll see how to change those stuff later so for instance if you want a different article all you have to do is that go back there and just change the title so now you know how to do a title now the next thing is a section if you want to create a section for instance you will start with an introduction a section doesn’t need an end section because it’s not a begin section so it’s a section introduction and here I’ll just write something this is a sample introduction section this is a second line in the introduction and this is a third one that’s it that’s your section I will create another section I’ll call it motivation the motivation behind this tutorial is to share the knowledge for the benefit of everyone who wants to start using later ok I’m gonna save it and I’m gonna run it let’s see so here it is let me again bring it to the frame here a sample attack this is a title this is our section it is automatically numbered this is section two but you see there are no different lines it is just one paragraph although I put different lines here so for that if you want to add a new line you just add slash slash it’s a backslash and that will produce different lines good enough right yep ok so that’s a basic article if you want to change the font size let me make it 8 so that the difference is visible so you see it’s an 8 point font then you can change the page size also for instance here I can say a for paper or letter paper for that matter if you want to have a ladder paper so let me go ledger paper so the change the size and the dimensions of the the page can be changed from here if you want to do a bigger change you can also use a package called geometry for this so all use package statements if you want to use an external package and just mean you’ll you use a lot of external packages for your final version which is this is basics we don’t need many but I’ll introduce one package called geometry so if you want to control the margins you can specify that here for instance I can say 12mm so one inch is like 25.4 mm or something so based on that you cannot do it I say taupe equals to 0.5 inches so you can as well specified inches or millimeters the way you prefer it button equals to 5 inches and the package name is geometry let’s see if I made a mistake no I did it you see so the of the dimensions of the page and the margins have changed if I want to comment it I just put a % here and this is the original document good enough okay so we’ll start here and post your questions in the comments if you happen and I’ll try to answer them

to review the patterns of development our narration description a simplification process analysis cause and effect comparison contrast classification and division and lastly definition let’s go ahead and talk about process analysis the particularly pattern of development that presents a series of steps in a procedure in chronological order and shows how the sequence of steps leads to particular results is process analysis it can also be explaining how to do something how others do it or just how certain things occur and here are the three questions that go along with process analysis how did it happen what makes it work or how is it made a process analysis is a discussion of the steps one must take to achieve a particular end some process analysis writing is intended for an audience that needs to learn how to perform a process themselves for example fixing event bicycle wheel quitting smoking finding a good job other process analysis writing is informative rather than instructional examples of this type include how to resolve the health care crisis and how to rebuild New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina Hurricane Katrina so some process analysis analyses work on both levels for example a discussion about how to respond to global warming will probably be both instructional and informative individuals can take many steps to control global warming but other steps must be taken by corporations and governments as well so the reader reads this kind of text for understanding as well as instruction here’s an example of a process analysis paragraph today I’d like to show you how easy it is to take pictures or the digital camera you will need a light or sending place a simple digital camera with good batteries and a memory card in it a little knowledge about the controls and a subject you want a photograph if you have all of these then you are ready for the first step okay this immediately addresses the audience this is that ethos it’s connecting with audience it’s telling the audience where the writer is going with this so this is really important for process analysis to have a an introduction like this especially since this person is saying how easy it is to take pictures with a camera you all you’ll need is light a digital camera batteries and a little knowledge and you can go further off it so this is connecting with an audience that probably doesn’t know how to use a camera if this were written for someone who is more experienced or had experience in something else that’s kind of like taking a digital photograph then your process and also analysis would probably sound a little bit different so I just want to point that out that this says something about the audience here in that first little sentence go to the place you’ve chosen for your picture you will then need to find the on and off button on your camera and turn it to the on position with your camera on and ready to go look for the control that says auto or a make sure that this word is aligned with a line or mark near the control button see how how obvious this is written out for this person the so for this audience besides having a picture of exactly what that is you can pretty much tell how to do that step turn it tool to where the word is aligned to the line now you’re ready to look through the viewfinder or at the screen of the back of your camera to find your subject if your camera has automatically turned off while you are looking for the controls click the shutter button once the shutter button is usually near the control wheel and near the camera on and off button clicking it will wake the camera back up so again the the diction here is tailored to an audience that doesn’t know how to do this we are done with this step make sure that everything you want to show in the picture appears in the viewfinder or screen finally holding the camera very still click the shutter button your pictures taken as you can see it’s pretty simple to take pictures with an automatic digital camera so see how detailed this is this is a true process analysis it’s not just telling us well I’ll just go outside and take a picture okay that’s not anywhere near process analysis so I want you guys to understand that process analysis really is step by step process this is a very instructional process analysis and we’ll read more in class about there’s more informational process analysis analyses
